Brought up on the family rice farm in Mamou, Louisiana, Dr. Barry J. Bieber was taught that working hard and taking responsibilities seriously is just a way of life. Strong family values and the desire to help people led Barry to the medical field. After graduating from Mamou High School, Barry graduated from Louisiana College where he met his wife Micki Baxley Bieber of Grant Parish. After graduation the Biebers moved to Shreveport to attend Medical School at LSU. Upon completion of medical school the couple found themselves moving yet again to enroll in the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency program at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. While the couple enjoyed living in Jackson, they were thrilled with the opportunity to move home and raise their two boys, Jackson 4 years old and Harrison 2 years old.
As an OB/GYN, Dr. Bieber, and his staff are dedicated to building a Christian practice in which women are provided with not only individualized healthcare, but also a compassionate and caring relationship between patient, doctor, and staff. In addition to providing general gynecological and obstetrical care, Dr. Bieber also offers gynecological surgery, high risk obstetrical care, and infertility counseling and treatment. Dr. Bieber also recognizes the importance of the management of menopause. According to Dr. Bieber, “women often get extremely frustrated with these issues because of recent controversial studies reported in the media. I personally feel that if there is good communication between the doctor and patient these issues can be addressed and treated in a manner that will allow the patient to be more comfortable with the symptoms and problems associated with menopause. No one should have to suffer through this time of discomfort without the help they need.”
This summer proved to be an exciting and busy time for Dr. Bieber. Not only was he busy moving his family to Central Louisiana, he was also organizing his office. His first priority was to assemble a caring and professional staff who would implement his philosophy on the type of practice he wanted to create. To manage his office, he hired Michelle Lemoine. Michelle, formerly employed by Colfax Banking Company, is very well equipped to handle the business needs for a growing medical practice. He also realized that her organizational skills are invaluable. Next he felt lucky to be able to employ Anita Wright as his nurse and surgical assistant. Anita was employed with Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates for 22 years and offers a wealth of experience and compassion to Dr. Bieber’s patients. Finally, Dr. Bieber selected Candace LaCour to be his receptionist and insurance specialist. Candace’s experience in the elementary school system is helpful with the amount of paper work associated with filing insurance and her winning personality is certainly an asset at the front desk.
With his staff in place, Dr. Bieber was ready to begin creating an office environment that would be pleasing to his patients. What was formerly the Personal Best Spa in the Doctors Building on the campus of Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital became Alexandria Healthcare for Women after extensive renovations done by the hospital. Micki, Dr. Bieber’s wife, and the staff were planning the environment and décor for his waiting area, exam rooms, and offices. An environment was created so that the women might be able to enjoy a moment to relax before their appointments.
Although Dr. Bieber is kept busy with his patients and work at the hospital, he does enjoy his time away from work. Now that he is back “home”, he is able to spend time with family and friends. He is also able to indulge his passion for the outdoors. Dr. Bieber enjoys fishing and hunting as much as possible. However, he says that two of the best things about being back in Louisiana are, of course, the food, but more importantly not being the only LSU Tiger fan in the midst of a “bunch of Ole Miss Rebels”!
